The star of Netflix’s hit series Black Swan has been set to appear at the annual Cannes Film Festival, according to a report.
Anna Kendrick will host a “film festival in the Bahamas” during the week of June 14-17, according an invitation for a weekend event posted by Cannes.
The Cannes Film festival has been criticized for being a showcase for white actors and directors, with many critics decrying the awards show for being dominated by films from black and Latino actors.
A handful of other major film festivals have been set up in the Caribbean in recent years, including in the United States, where the festival was established in 1995.
The Bahamas has a sizable Black community and is home to some of the Caribbean’s most notorious crime scenes, including the notorious “N-Word” nightclub.
The Bahamas has hosted the Sundance Film Festival for the past three years.
