Barbie Dream House opens in Los Angeles
In a move that would be unthinkable just a few years ago, Barbie Dream Home, a new boutique designed to look like a bathhouse, has opened in Los Angelenos’ trendy Boyle Heights neighborhood.
The dream house has been named Barbie Dream Homes by the owners, who are longtime residents of the neighborhood and are hoping to build a home of their own someday.
They’ve been working on the project for the past few years and it will be open to the public this fall, but now it’s a real-life “Barbie Dream House” where visitors can experience the home’s “toys, accessories and lifestyle,” according to the brand’s website.
In the video, a woman, wearing a tuxedo, describes the home as a “living space” with “an entire world of entertainment and adventure” that includes “an indoor play area, play area area with the toys, and an outdoor play area.”
In a statement to ABC News, the home said the idea for the dream house came after a “dream vacation” that involved going on a “vacation trip in a Barbie Dream Mansion” in the United Kingdom.
The home’s website said the dream home is “a beautiful, colorful space with a huge, vibrant collection of Barbie toys and accessories that have been lovingly crafted to fit in with your home.”
Barbie Dreams was founded in 2010 by a group of family and friends who lived in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles.
They originally opened a store on Broadway in the 1990s and moved the store to the Boyle neighborhood in 2012.
In 2013, the owners took a $2.5 million loan from the Los Angeles Department of Building Inspection to buy the building, which was in the process of being demolished.
In 2014, the company sold the building to a group led by the son of former president Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, who is now the president of the Trump Organization.
In the past year, the dream owners have bought a condo in the neighborhood, bought an apartment on the ground floor and bought an even bigger house nearby, according to ABC affiliate KABC-TV.
